tESTing expertise
Many different test methods are available to determine the mechanical properties of a material. We are experts in a variety of mechanical testing methods including tensile, hardness, impact toughness, fatigue, fracture toughness, torsion, and bend testing. We work with a number of recognized labs. Testing is performed in accordance with recognized industry standards including ASTM and ISO. The most common mechanical property tests are detailed below:
- TENSILE TESTING — Provides a wealth of information including tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, reduction of area, and modulus of elasticity. Various types and sizes of specimens are available.
- IMPACT TOUGHNESS — This relates to the ability of a material to absorb energy and deform plastically before fracturing. Common test methods are Charpy V-notch and Izod.
- HARDNESS — Measures the resistance of a material to penetration of the surface. Common methods include Brinell, Rockwell, Knoop and Vickers.
- FATIGUE – Measures the stress at which a material fails after a specific number of cycles.
We are experienced in the mechanical property testing of a wide variety of materials including steels, cast iron, and non-ferrous alloys such as aluminum and titanium. We also have expertise in the testing of carbides and elastomeric materials.
We are experienced in the various types of non-destructive examination and can provide guidance in this area.
We can develop custom tests for specific applications such as wear and erosion testing, pressure testing, and other specialized tests.
